I'm off to Holy Mass. I wish you a Blessed Sunday!

>>24618 I'm going by the Bible. It's the most printed book in the world, so I guess you could call it popular culture. What's the hipster version of Jesus?
>>24618 leftist and atheist like to play verbal games, they dont really think people who reject jesus will go to hell. just silly things like jesus was brown and jesus was commie. there's actually a whole book of dos and donts removing the need for speculation, at least attacking that directly wouldnt be intellectually dishonest
>>24620 >I'm going by the Bible Did you read it or you're just quoting bits and pieces you absorbed from media?
>>24622 I had years of Sunday school and religion classes in primary, secondary and high school. I admit I didn't read it cover to cover though, there are a lot of gaps in boring books like Numeri and the acts of the apostles. I did read the four gospels though. What I quoted was among the most mainstream stuff though, the things you hear every other Sunday in Sunday school. But again, what does hipster Jesus tell us about whether to help refugees if it's not the sermon on the mount? No, I won't use the Good Samaritan, that's way too simple, since it's a direct answer to "you say love your neighbour, who's my neighbour?" Also, it's pretty mainstream as well, even if many people don't know the context.
>>24616 ... Jesus literally said all rich people will go to hell. "And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." Compulsory charity will save rich people from hell. The idea that you can keep your wealth because you want it and still go to heaven is silly. Christianity isn't about feeling good about one's self and always being forgiven. It is about empathy and the benefit of others. To refuse compulsory charity is to lack empathy.

Picking up where we left off. >>225 I've obviously sung endless praises for the album Surrender, so there's no need to retread what's already been covered. Maggie Rogers's early work merits a closer look, especially The Echo, which she wrote and recorded as a high schooler. The album is standard Folk music, with its strength lying in the lyrics; rough around the edges and struggling to discover her strengths. The standout track is the closing tune, "Satellite," tastefully arranged with a piano, violin, and trumpet. Maggie croons about longing for a moment of reprieve without indulging in maudlin sentimentality. "Embers", "Wolves" and "Deep in the Earth" are also very worthy: https://maggierogers.bandcamp.com/album/the-echo Blood Ballet continues where The Echo left off. While a little more consistent, the album lacks a strong emotional centerpiece like "Satellite" which leaves me yearning for more. That said, it still features great tunes like "Resonant Body", "James", "Drift", "Little Joys", "Anybody" and, of course, the highlight "Symmetry": https://maggierogers.bandcamp.com/album/blood-ballet Finally, we have her previously unreleased Shoegaze EP that appeared on Notes from the Archive: Recordings 2011-2016. According to her commentary, the end of a two-year-long relationship inspired "Together" and likely "One More Afternoon". She still yearned to be together with her man while he chased his dreams beyond the Rockies. Thoroughly emotional and utterly engaging. Unfortunately, much of these intense emotions would be somewhat flattened on the major label debut Heard It in a Past Life and first EP Now That the Light Is Fading. Despite strong tracks like "Light On", "Fallingwater", and "Dog Years", the album suffers from sterile production values and underwhelming instrumentation. Honey, I know you've been shaking Sick and awaiting vacation But I could be your heron blue sky I could be your white night lullaby Wrap me in celadon and gold Wrap me in celadon and gold If you want me Would you call me? Would you call me? If you want me And maybe I'll wait for a cold day Shiver in sheets until you say Through your silent heat "Won't you pilot me?" Ooh, ooh If you want me Would you call me? If you want me, oh If you want me Would you call me? Would you call me? If you want me If you want me Would you call me? If you want - I was losing you in greys and blues A winter sky, I never Want to know the risk Inconsequential views, I never knew Could play that part when I was Walking through the park And I Would paint the clouds away If I could I would Take it slow walking home Remind you all that we could be Together Holding hands while marching bands sing Loud choruses of the future Together And all that's good and fine But, darling, I'm still terrified That you'll choose Los Angeles over me I'm staring at my toes If only I could make them go where'd I'd be Happy And you say That you'd never stay Wait, we could Take it slow walking home Remind you all that we could be Together Holding hands while marching bands sing Loud choruses of the future Together Together Together - [i]I never told you 'bout the green in your eyes Watching you sleep through 2008 skies But it's over Maybe some other time We always said we'd meet up in the city Tell of our lives since that virgin kiss Oh, such a long while ago in my mind First love, gone too soon I wish that I could Sit with you For one more afternoon First love, gone too fast I think of you like we were last Alive, and you're in love, and in the side One more afternoon One more afternoon One more One more One more Maybe in ten years I'll think about now And I'll learn that you're always with me somehow Always in my mind First love, gone too soon I wish that I could sit with you For one more afternoon First love, gone too fast I think of you like we were last Alive, and you're in love Alive, and you

Merhaba Are there some turks here who can enlighten me about turkish internet? Do you have chans or forums where you speak about turk matters, like memes, happenings, society, etc? I want to improve my turkish Saygilarimla Bernd
kereste.moe
you won't be getting any memes or meaningful thing from dead ass, boring boards try türk r*ddit pages instead they are closest thing turks have the "real" imageboards because all the türk boards are populated by same 15 retards only posting about each other rather than general stuff, i don't think they even produce any meme during last 5 years or even more

Can we haz a general movie thread? What did you last watch and how do you rate it? I saw that Taxi Driver finally got a new restoration after 10 years and so I rewatched it. Excellent as always, really one of the best New Hollywood movies, oozing with soul, a great soundtrack and a deeply felt psychological mock-up.

Coincidentally I watched Taxi Driver recently too. I'd watched it a long time ago but had forgotten the plot entirely. It was overall decent. I like the dialogue. Dialogue nowadays is so so bad it's refreshing to watch something that feels at least a little bit like everyday speech. The revenge on society plot was okay. I see how people relate it to Joker but really they're quite different films, and I probably overall prefer Joker (maybe that's a cinema sin but idc)
>>24580 Why does dialogue have to be natural? I like stylized dialogue to achieve certain artistic goals.
>>24582 I suppose you could have intentionally unrealistic dialogue to achieve some artistic goal, but that would need to be well enough made to compensate for the film being otherwise unrealistic. The reason people like to watch films is to empathise with the characters, and so feel something when something happens to those characters. If the dialogue isn't able to trick you into believing that they're real people, you're not going to care about them and won't enjoy the film.
>>24576 it's a decent movie Joker is better with a more intense story in my imo
>>24598 That kind of nihilistic imageboard-y absurdist atmosphere is really rare, but it's nice when someone makes something like it. Disco Elysium has a similar feel imo

>>24251 Honestly, this looks rather useful to me. Kudos to your uni that they put such a focus on teaching. Some just care about research and have super overworked researchers giving the lectures thinking it's some kind of nuisance. As a student, that's the best thing they could do for you. >>24313 You're a big boy now. No one will care if you vanish after filling your belly.
>>24316 >that they put such a focus on teaching of my masters courses (1%=1ECTS): 16% were fundamental exams where you had to memorize a book, not nice 44% was varying degrees of OK, a lot of it pretty mid 20% was IT with AI focus, interesting but far from perfect 20% was outstanding, 3x courses by the woman that got a prize here + 2x courses by someone else So yeah, not all was great but I was grateful for the good courses. >Some just care about research and have super overworked researchers giving the lectures thinking it's some kind of nuisance. I think that is very faculty dependent, some just have very little of substance to offer. Everything economics and humanities, which makes up a lot of courses on the list, just isn't very good at producing actually interesting novel stuff. This is especially obvious when compared to chemistry or whatever. I partook in a lot of scientific experiments for money over the years and the gap between psychology, which tested a lot of subconscious stuff and did a lot of eye tracking, and economics, which mostly tried to find behavioral patterns in decision making in some stupid money related experiments at a PC, already seems big to me. Now think of some material chemist that developed a new material with certain interesting properties and publishes about it. It also requires close to infinite resources, like ETH and other really rich universities have, to get people that do relevant research to come work for you. When you don't have such you have to think of other ways to make your university attractive.
>>24483 >novel stuff why do they need to produce courses on cutting edge research when like 90% of students barely muddle through the regular textbooks first editions of which were published 20-40 years ago? >3x courses by the woman that got a prize here could you name those?
>>24485 >why do they need to produce courses on cutting edge research when like 90% of students barely muddle through the regular textbooks first editions of which were published 20-40 years ago? What I meant was in response to what the Swiss guy said, "Some just care about research and have super overworked researchers giving the lectures thinking it's some kind of nuisance". Imo that's pretty hard in humanities, economics and such because these fields don't yield enough novel stuff. In hard sciences at universities with big funds, sure. Also students don't do shit anymore because of AI. No one reads books or papers anymore, just AI summaries. Presentations are cobbled together with AI assistance, same for written assignments. This isn't sustainable. My thesis supervisor, who is in regulatory committees, told me that he proposed abolishing written theses altogether (or at least heavily changing them) in one of those because of how much they get devalued by AI. There is zero value in most things left, e.g. a meta analysis of current papers or explaining fundamentals of a topic. >could you name those? I'd rather not and it doesn't really matter because the courses were mostly outstanding because of the lecturer, not because of the content. The woman was well studied, sharp and very motivated which overall resulted in pleasant and interactive environment.
>>24588 >students don't do shit anymore because of AI didn't know it's that bad already >I'd rather not >the courses were mostly outstanding because of the lecturer no worries here, it's just exactly what I was thinking: it's not about the topic but the professor's personality / motivation
